denim

why yes, my hair is naturally wavy, although the haircut does a lot to bring out the curl. i agree that i'll probably like my short hair more in a month or two once it settles in and grows out a little. i wanted to wait a year after having leon to cut my hair off, and i'm glad i did. however, as jenny gordy mentioned, it's strange to have short hair again after nearly 6 years. it's a bit like time travel, it was a shock to my system to look in the mirror and see me circa 2004 (so much has changed). at least my current stylist is very good at cuts that grow out gracefully. i probably won't bother doing anything for the next 6 months. come summertime, i'll be back to my old ways--ponytail, bun, braids.

now, on to the denim question. thanks for all the suggestions, you've given me a solid list of brands to try over the next week or so.

this is my list so far:
Madewell
J Brand
James (Twiggy)
Sass and Bide
Acne (Hex)
Earnest Sewn (Harlan)
APC (New Cure and Petit Standard)

i actually adore the Current Elliott legging jeans, but they are super lightweight for winter wear. the C/E skinny jeans don't really flatter my back side, sadly. i haven't tried on a pair of denim from Levi's or the Gap in ages, so they might be worth checking while at the mall.

i'll keep everyone posted with photos and reviews from the trenches next week. my r13s stretch out so much, they look like jodhpurs! i spent $160 on them, and would like to spend no more than that on the next pair. wish me luck. for some reason, there's nothing more demoralizing and exhausting than shopping for jeans...

you might want to add joe's jeans to the list- their petite line has a higher knee break, so the knees don't hit...well, NOT at your knees! i haven't tried the skinny, so i can't speak from experience, but i find their jeans are nice (and sometimes you can find them at places like loehman's and nordstrom rack on the cheap!). good luck- the jeans quest is nearly never ending.

cheers,
mindi

i agree, finding the perfect jeans is like finding the perfect man...nearly impossible! anyways, keep us posted on your quest. I'm eager to find out how the acne and the apc's fit.

I also got my haircut from very long to a bob and feel uneasy about it mostly because I am growing a lot of grey. I decided to put on an old pair of grey Wrangler jeans from the 90's/a mix of mommy/boyfriend jeans and that made the haircut more painful. Levi has midrise jeans that are ok. My favorite pair of skinny is a raw denim from the gap 1969 from 2007 and I wish I has bought several...

Good luck with the jeans, though i have to disagree about it being the hardest thing - sunglasses are it for me, to the point I haven't worn any for the past few years. I have a small head, and even normal glasses look OS.

Such a cute cot/crib shot! You can totally tell it is you, and I can see where Leon gets his lush hair from.

i highly recommend H&M slim fit jeans. they have a great fit and such a nice wash and don't stretch out. i think i paid $39 for them. they're as nice if not better than jeans that i've paid 150+ on. not really a skinny, more of a true slim jean!

I'll be following along w/ your jeans search. I like the Madewell Rail Straights, but am looking for something new too.

You were the cutest little girl ever! Such a sweet pic!

I've been wearing Gap Real Straight jeans - i got the shorter length so they hit on the ankle. But they do really bag out on the bum after half a day...

I love your hair!

honestly, your hair looks fantastic, erica!

on the jeans front, i am a huge fan of acne hex. they have a pretty high rise and stay slim over time. i also like j brand, but acne is my go-to brand for denim. i love all of their styles - also tube and hug!

good luck and embrace your hair!

i got a pair of the current/elliott denim leggings and enjoyed them for all 8 wears that they lasted, then the seam up the rear came completely undone while i was shopping at whole foods! and they weren't even particularly tight! currently i'm liking j brand's 901 legging jean in olympia and surprisingly j. crew's ankle toothpick jeans.
good luck on the hunt

I can't wait to see your jean reviews. I too highly recommend J brand jeans. I bought my first pair(the green label pencil)super on sale a while back. I love them. They don't sag/stretch out and they make my bum/legs look great. Even though they are called pencil leg they really fit like skinnies.
