steven alan sullivan dress on sale

photo from frances may

i was at the tannery (the new one, not the downstairs one) in harvard square, and they have the sullivan dress on sale for 50% off (originally $236). i saw a P, S, and M. i recommend sizing up on this. i tried it on at stel's, and it's tight in the chest and short. i was fine with the length in the S, but the buttons were pulling at the chest (and i'm just an A cup).

i also tried on the topsiders, and the shop guy told me they have to fit snug. my heel was slipping out of the 8.5s, and they were out of the 8s, but he said that should be my size. i'm normally an 8.5 or 9, so i'm feeling nervous about buying something that ends up being too snug. it seems like it runs true to size, but do you feel like it's best to wear them tight like slippers (sockless)? i didn't mind the color they had, either, although i still like the lighter color at jcrew best.

Re: topsiders
I would wear sans socks but I am wondering if they ar wearable with skinny straight jeans? what jeans can you wear with them?

Hi Erica, if you're talking about Sperry brand shoes, then I would definitely size down or go with the smaller of your two sizes if you normally are in between. I find that the their leathers really stretch out. The first pair I ever bought were the lace up type (so perhaps it was more serious that my heels were coming out of those), and I can't wear those shoes because my heels get chafed raw.

viv, thanks for the advice. i will probably go with the 8s, then. the shop guy warned about the exact same issue.

I'm so bummed to hear that the Sullivan dress is running small. I really wanted the polka dot one from last spring, but I found it so be insanely small. I hoped that they would have corrected that this season, but I guess not. Too bad, especially since it's 50% off right now!

i got mine on the small side of the size range that i wear, so i would recommend sizing down. i like them with skinny jean-leggings, sometimes i wear them with tights and shorts and a big button up shirt and a sweater. they make my feet look small, in a good way! the leather really does give quite a bit and they break in very quickly.

I don't know why the sullivan dress runs so small in the bust, I had the exact same problem. I've tried on the P,S, and M and they are all tight in the chest (just an A cup too!), and so I just ended up getting the P because it fit the best everywhere else...I just leave one of the buttons undone and wear a tank underneath. Still, I probably shouldn't have gotten it to avoid frustration....
