jcrew has really been inspired by isabel marant lately. the embroidered zafrina skirt reminded me of this dress. i found it on sale for $28 at one of the stores two weeks ago.
I almost bought this skirt for this very reason. It reminded me so much of that Marant dress. I did post about this back in April- some one at J.Crew has a serious Marant crush.
Most of the J. Crew stuff is different enough so that they are not overt copies.
I'm not sure where I read/ heard this but Marant was discussing how often her work is being copied and was matter of fact about it- how she becomes almost sick of certain pieces in her collections because they are knocked off as soon as they hit the runway.
I have very mixed feelings about this (designers copying other designers) but to be honest, I have personally benefited from J.Crew being 'inspired by' Marant. I wish I could afford to buy Marant originals all of the time, but I can't.
i remember your post on isabel marant and jcrew now, jennifer! i'm not a huge fan of these 'loosely inspired' pieces, although at the same time, IM is quite expensive for what it is. if it's a blatant copy, i won't buy it, but if it's in the 'spirit,' i may be more tempted by the lower prices...
I saw those niconico harem shorts in black on The Mini Social a while back and thought they were soooo cute. I don't have any kids, but I was tempted to buy them anyways :) They look so comfy.
