my post for roberta's camp comfort 'fall essentials' series is up!
it looks like ankle boots are on a lot of people's minds lately.
here are a few that i've been considering:
rachel comey penpal boot in navy (bird has it in black, and the brown can be found at several places)
no. 6 boots with shearling lining
no. 6 boots with buckle
does anyone own the no. 6 boots? i'd love to know if they really are weather-resistant and suitable for city walking.
and these are probably what i would end up with. goodness knows they'd be the most comfortable on! with the beklina discount code (15% off S15B), the manimal moccasin boots are almost in reach.

Just found your blog because I am going through a similar dilemma. I'm deciding between the rachel comey black penpal boot, the no. 6 boot with buckle, and the hasbeens jodhpur boot (the short or the tall) but I'm not sure which ones. I'm looking fwd to hearing from others about them too! I'd love to get the penpal and one of the clogs but will have to satisfied with one!
Great choices as always, Erica. Thanks for introducing me to Camp Comfort...cute blog!
I loved your picks.
Holy cow, I may have to finally order those mocs. We've only been obsessing over them for a year!
I guess you already know about the Minnetonka mocs? I guess if it were me I would wonder how long I'd wear the Beklina ones, that's all. At least the Minnetonkas can be a bit of a fun purchase at around US$45 (for e.g. http://www.minnetonka-by-mail.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=598) .
I am dying for a pair of great ankle boots too, have been for so long now, and our Winter is almost over! They're great for Spring too though I imagine. I wonder how appropriate they would look in Summer without stockings?
I have the high No. 6 buckle boots (and also live in Cambridge) and they're perfect for walking around the city. I got to test them out for the first time last weekend with all the rain. My feet stayed dry and I didn't even get a blister. I highly, highly recommend.
those last ones are good. really good.
i have a pair of wood soled sven boots (i think the sven people make the no 6 boots), and they are outrageously wonderful. in fact, i've been anxiously awaiting cool weather to get back into them. they are supportive enough for endless walks, work with everything in my closet, and are durable besides.
Oh man, those no 6 boots just jumped to the top of my wish list! Doh!
Farah-
That's really good to hear! I am leaning toward the No. 6 boots, although I wish I could try them on first.
Catherine-
I agree, Minnetonka is always an affordable option, but the grey Manimals are so pretty, it's hard to look at other options.
Oh, if only I had limitless funds for shopping...
I definitely vote for the Rachel Comeys. I think they are the most versatile and would go with dressier dresses as well as skirts/pants and I have heard her shoes are really comfortable and well made. Plus the navy adds that extra level of interest that black and brown miss.
I also love your camp comfort post, Erica.
In that case I love the No 6 buckle boot. I love the contrast of the natural sole with the matte black leather. Clean, modern, classic, lovely. Whatever you buy you will make them look doubly amazing. Happy shopping!
I'm a big fan of the Rachel Comey boots. Can't wait to see what you pick out!
I looooooove those shearling lined ones! I forgot they made those! Glad to hear that they are comfy. I think I need them :D
the rachel comey ones look really wearable, can really see them with a kicky little skirt and wool tights. they're quite similar to the Isabel Marant ones I kicked myself for not getting last year. though those sheepskin lined ones are intriguing - you could be so snug and cosy.
i have the no. 6 buckle boots and LOVE them. i wear them w/ tights and dresses and cuffed jeans. they are super comfy. but, i love the rachel comeys too. sure you will be happy w/ either!
claire--
yes, i'm still sad that i didn't buy those IM boots.
i'm going to see if stels is carrying the rachel comeys so i can try them on.
it's good to hear that the no. 6's are comfy, though. i've yet to wear anything with a heel successfully.
Erica - I just pre-ordered the Dieppa desert boots from Doris' impeccably curated webshop. There is a F&F promotional code that I'll forward to your e-mail address!
oh gosh, I'm having the exact same dilemma with the ankle boots. The no. 6 boot's seem like they would be much more wearable in bad weather and be able to hold up to my terrible walking habits. but the rachel comey boots are a dream design wise. they're so pretty!
hi erica --
tough call. all your picks are lovely! i just received the comey boots in chocolate from bird. i ordered my usual size 8 and they are a bit snugger, both length-wise and width-wise, than i anticipated (i only usually buy flat shoes). the sales assistant told me that hers have stretched a great deal over the 2 weeks and not to worry. we shall see!
p.s. i LOVE the comey boots. they are the perfect heel height and look adorable with dresses and tights. and my straight-leg jeans fit over the opening, or they can be scrunched/tucked in.
The Penpal is a narrower fit than the (tall, flat) Archive; I returned the pair I bought, but I did see a woman wearing the Penpal in the elevator on the way to work this morning and they looked fabulous on her!
So many nice pairs! You are further fueling my shoe addiction. Love to wear comfy and warm boots.
Hey E. Just thought I'd drop you a line: I went for it on the No6 boots with the buckle, and I absolutely love them (I goofed on the color choice, but they are fixing that). I also cannot seem to wear heels anymore, but these feel fine and kind of trick the eye into thinking they are more heel-y than they really are! I was pleasantly surprised by how rugged they felt - I think they would handle weather great. Just my two cents!
