Barbour Bedale, 5 years later

It's been a little over 5 years since I bought my Barbour Bedale. It only get better with age. I wear it three out of four seasons, and re-wax it at least once a year. The cotton fabric is very delicate, so you have to be vigilant. I went a bit too long one year, and tiny holes started forming, but I think with care it will last me at least 5 more years before I seriously consider a replacement. With a warm liner and thick wool sweater, I am comfortable in temps as low as 5-10 F. The only thing I would think about changing is the length, but overall, I have been so pleased with my coat.

Regarding sizing, this is the men's version, which I chose because I wanted the option of a zip-in liner. It's a size 34, which is plenty roomy without the liner. It's tight around the hips with liner and sweater, but I don't mind looking like a puffball.

Here I am with the liner and sweater. You will definitely need a thick sweater because otherwise your arms will freeze in anything colder than 45 F.

This is me without the liner, but with the sweater. I usually skip the liner when it's between 50 and 70.

It looks great. So much character after years of loving wear.

Each fall I think about finally getting a barbour jacket. Right now I have something that looks just like one from Landsend, which I love, but I think the fabric just isn't as good. I'm glad to hear about the sizing because I'm always confused because it seems so different on each website I look at. I think I would get the mens version too, I like lots of room for sweaters. It's been so cold here lately I can't handle it!

I love this awesome weathered jacket. Julia drive to the outlet in new Hampshire, it is a day trip worth doing during their clearance sale. I picked up a utility jacket last year for a good deal.

As a completely unrelated note, muji.us has some amazing deals right now.

Yay, thanks for the post, love to see how it's aged. I just got a 32, though can't help but wonder if I should have gotten the 34. I'm waiting to see how it fits with a liner.

I think you can do without a liner as long as you wear a warm sweater. Another thing I've considered is a very thin windbreaker like my patagonia houdini. I like the oversized look, but sometimes I wish the sleeves weren't so big. Then again, it is much more comfortable when you can move your arms even when wearing a lot of layers!

You look great in it. As for the waxing, do you get that professionally done? Matt bought a used Barbour that had a very... rancid smell. To the point that he couldn't really wear it out in public. We wondered if it was a wax job gone awry, haha.

Eww, that sounds awful. I wax it at home. Has he tried cleaning it using ice water? I don't think you can have it cleaned otherwise. Something about the fabric finish, I think.

I'm thinking to get a bedale jacket too. I'm struggling about the size, 32 or 34. May I ask about your height and weight?
