nyc...clogs and overalls
our trip to nyc to visit friends last week was such a welcome break. we still managed to spend a few mornings at the park along riverside drive, and i didn't shop nearly as much as i wanted to, but that's how it goes when you're on leon time.
i bought an undershirt from India at Maryam Nassir Zadeh in a lovely dark forest green. apparently they cost $0.35 in India! i also bought white overalls from the Steven Alan outlet, which i've been coveting every since i saw fanny bostrom's wedding photos. they are so comfortable, and i've really enjoyed the baggier silhouette.
we went to bu and the duck finally, which is conveniently located across the street from steven alan in tribeca. the shop was filled with amazing vintage toys and furniture. i bought leon a pair of linen overalls, which he's modeling with his new shoes from sweet william.
i had less luck with shoes, although what else is new? i fell in love with these golden goose clogs, but the shop was out of my size. stephanie and i went to no. 6 (right next door to built by wendy) to try out their clog heels. my feet are so wide that i had a hard time even putting the T-strap clog on, and stephanie found them to run narrow, too. i'm guessing they'll stretch out a little, but i don't think there's much hope for me. so i ended up buying a pair of sven clogs in black, which were surprisingly sleek and minimalist for clogs. however, after a walk to the park and back, i now have blisters and aching feet. perhaps the 39s are too small, after all. or maybe it's the high heel. not sure what to do about this.
i was deciding between the svens and the boating moccasins by SeaVees, which were as comfortable as a good pair of sneakers, and now i wish i had gone with the latter. and so it goes!

You and Leon are so cute in your overalls! Sorry to hear that the No. 6 clogs didn't work. Mine were so tight when I first got them that I worried I had gotten the wrong size. But after wearing them several times, they've stretched out and have become quite comfortable. I hope that your Sven clogs will do the same.
so cute!
www.abejasboutique.com had those golden goose clogs, Pam M. ordered them but found they fit a little odd for her. they don't sell them online, but you could call to see if they still have them. tenderbirmingham.com has them too, but they only list sizes 36 and 41 online, but maybe they'll get a return.
i also ordered them awhile back from maryamnassirzadeh and found them to be mostly comfortable, but the toe box seemed to hit from the top a bit and i also decided i couldn't afford them, so i sent them back too.
I always enjoy the mother & son shots of you and Leon. So cute!
How much do I love that woman for wearing coveralls on her wedding day??
I posted on those Indian undershirts from MNZ a while back- is the fabric nice? They are probably one of the more affordable items in the store...but 35 cents! That's some mark-up!
Golden Goose -ugh- the make such beautiful shoes...but dang they are expensive. Would love a pair of their Rose Bowl Boots one day!
xo
the first picture! ahhh. SO CUTE!!!
Ack! You wore the clogs for a walk? I think you got to break those things in around the house first. I wouldn't give up on them yet.
We enjoyed having you guys here. Nora has been moping ever since Leon left.
You look SO CUTE in those overalls...
those overalls are so amazing! i was just thinking / imagining a nice light weight summer pair like those. and they look really great with the clogs. glad you had a great time on your trip!
the overalls were marked down to $100, and i would say they fit true to size to slightly small. i'm wearing a 6. the 4s were a little tight around the waist, which is more fitted than your typical overalls.
hmm, maybe the golden goose clogs should remain a passing fancy. i can see what you mean about the toe box, but they sure are lovely!
the fabric on the indian tank tops is very smooth and soft, almost a sateen. i sized up to the 90cm (chest size), which is a little baggier. they are definitely better for the flat-chester.
and yes, i'm going to try breaking in the clogs while at home. thank goodness our downstairs neighbors are rarely home, what with me clomping about!
flat-chested. although flat-chester sounds hilarious.
but yes, the size 80cm fits just fine, but i prefer a looser fit.
someday i'll go to india, and when i do, i'll be sure to scoop up $40 worth of undershirts. the mark-up is nuts!
love love love the overalls. on both of you! i too coveted that white pair after seeing those wedding photos. every once in a while i daydream about ian and i just setting off at random for city hall and i get that image in my head. we'll have to work on the effortlessly fashionable thing. hm...funny how that sounds!
glad you made it to bu and the duck! did you see the tiny boys' shirts at steven allen??
I'm a recent transplant from nyc to Cambridge, MA and I'm glad that I've found your blog coz it's fun to read. The last thing I bought in nyc before moving was a pair of Sven clogs because I couldn't find No.6 clogs in my size. The first time I wore them, walking all over Cambridge, I got major blisters. Fast forward a week they are really comfortable and I wear them to work almost every day. I am hoping that you'll give your clogs a second chance!
porter- welcome to cambridge! i am wearing the clogs around the house, hoping to break them in a little bit more. thanks for the vote of confidence, the poor svens definitely need it.
cute matching outfit, Leon is cute as always. Hope you had a lovely time in NY.
What a fine, fine tour. I have it planned that if i ever go to N.Y., my first (and probably again as last) stop will be Makie Clothier.
you two are so cute. love the mismatched shoes.

hope the shoes are feeling a bit better and both you and leon look great in your overalls!!
God i love both those overalls! The cut on yours, Erica, is great. Do you slip into them? I mean, I can't see any domes or buttons on the straps so guess you shimmy in through the top?
Very good shopping.
Oh but the tanks must be 35 cents wholesale if you buy 1000 of them from the manufacturer. India's cheap, but not that cheap. In fact, you might as well come to London and buy Indian stuff at Portobello market - it costs the same. (Though I may have got charged slightly more in India for being a gullible looking blue eyed white woman with a humongous camera round her neck and terrible bargaining skills.)
i have the sven criss cross clog (http://estore.websitepros.com/1454337/Detail.bok?no=141). i have wide feet too and i got them about half a size smaller than i normally wear, but they have stretched out nicely. after about 2 weeks of wearing them all the time, they have really molded to my feet and are some of the most comfortable shoes i own now. i think it was a good idea to get them a little bit small because they do stretch. so hang in there!
