i think it's the slanted front pockets that make me lovethis dress. a long chunky cardigan or knit vest, perhaps, and bookts, of course. normally i don't wear black, but i love the plaid on this dress.
you're right, black plaid is hard to pull off, but the size of the plaid works, making it look really cozy. i could totally use this in my fall wardrobe.

there is also a tonal brown stripe to soften the black
