the jacket

week three of lecturing and it is becoming very clear that my outfits are stuck in grad student/TA mode. for my first lecture, i wore my loup charmant scallop dress and lucchese boots. last week was a denim etoile isabel marant dress and mocs.

granted, i tend to dress better when it's chillier, but in the midst of packing for next weekend's move, i realized that i had purged more things than i should have from my closet over the past 3 years. becoming a mama altered my relationship to my body and my work, and now i'm left with comfortable leggings, sweatshirts, and the occasional piece from the archives.

i think it's time to commit to a blazer, but i can't find anything i like. i tried on J.Crew's hacking jacket while in california and didn't like the fit on me. i wonder if anyone has tried on the annette jacket at Steven Alan? a little iffy on double-breasted jackets, and wool-cotton blend doesn't sounds quite right to me, yet it looks promising.

Finding a good blazer is so difficult. I haven't tried the Annette jacket on, but it looks so good on the model. I haven't had very good luck with Steven Alan jackets. I really like the way Boy Band of Outsiders jackets fit, but at full price, they are way out of most people's price range.

i know, band of outsiders is on my covet list, but way too expensive to even think about seriously!

i've never tried on a steven alan jacket, so it's hard to say.

You can always email for measurements. I do that so often the Steven Alan folks must think I'm crazy!

I agree that the wool blend sounds suspect, but 100% wool can be so bulky (like the J.Crew blazer).

i guess a wool cotton blend could be ok since it wouldn't be my primary source of warmth.

guess it's time for an email to SA...

blazer does add that authority for lecturing. I read somewhere that the secrets of stylists is the boy's section in Brooks brothers---the blazers for boys are well made but lesser price than the one for grown ups.

Theory also makes great blazers, i still have mine from eight years ago.

my post babies dress jackets in nice finish and nice material.

1) unexpected but very nice are brooks brothers jackets in pinstripe wool (very fine and not thick). The material and cut is clean and nice. (I also live by non-iron fitted shirts because they go in the wash and dryer and do not require any ironing and are classic enough to be timeless).

2) I also like Nouvelle jacket by Jcrew in 120 fine wool. A old style in 120 wool still avail on Ebay new is the bonnie blazer - double breasted and super cute

I want to like APC jackets but find them too boxy.
