(an utterly crummy photo. i'll post better when the sun is out and i'm less sick and cranky)
my mayle Galina jacket came yesterday, and needless to say, i'm in love. having never seen it in person, i didn't realize just how soft the herringbone fabric was. it's almost sweater-like, which is exactly what i'm craving during these early fall days. its generous shape will also work during the months to come. matthew thinks it's a little too fancy for daywear (the ruffles! the sparkles! oh my!). i think i'll debut it on friday at the ICA.
i know i said 'never again' to skinny jeans, but this pair by Martin is everything i ever wanted in a pair of denim. of course i'll have to hem them since i can't pull off a 35" inseam, but otherwise, the fit is perfect. the extra bit of stretch doesn't hurt, either. i ordered a size up, which was a good idea because 1. i can wear these low-rise jeans buttoned (for now) and 2. skintight skinny isn't really my thing, anyway.
Anne Albert Johnston's capsule collection is like a grown-up version of A.P.C. not that i'm ready to give up my Touitou-love, but there are some days when i crave really simple, really versatile pieces that are readily folded into my existing wardrobe. i love margiela, but this line is 'slightly' more affordable for impulse buys.

That jacket looks so darling!!!
I love those jeans, and that jacket is to. die. for.
It's great! And it fits you perfectly. I am so glad this worked out for you. I won't be wearing Vera for some months as it is a lot heavier than Galina. I hope you feel better soon.
I also love the jeans, and the way Turtle is admiring them on you!
mmmm, pretty jacket I want one...
The jacket's really nice! Kind of random, but I live in the house John and Jinhee built and used to live in in Cambridge. I've read your blog for a while and was so surprised when I made the connection after seeing your husband's pic in your Flickr account. Just thought I'd say hello!
the jeans are great, but i totally lied about buttoning them. they've already been rubber-banded, sigh.
the Galina is very warm, but so soft and lightweight that it's the perfect transitional piece. i hope you get a lot of use out of the Vera, Moya. i wish i could own about 20 more jackets and coats, but that would be plain ridiculous.
halfandhalf- that's so funny that you live in john and jinhee's house AND you recognized matthew. i love jogging by that house, it's always so nice to see something different in cambridge.
you are so pretty! i love love your style.
Speaking of skinny jeans, I got a great pair at Metier in San Francisco last week. They are Cheap Monday, and I love them!! They were also $70, which is an utter steal. Sheri said they are supposed to be like leggings. Nice. Comes in blue and black denim.
i love that the jacket looks like that but it's cozy - once again i disagree with the mr. definitely day or night.
grown-up version of apc, interesting. some (not all but some) of the coolest "older" people i've seen have been shopping in apc...
a.p.c. is definitely grown-up, but what i like about labels such as martin is that they are less blatantly retro. some times a.p.c. has too much personality for me, if that makes any sense.
i've yet to try on cheap mondays, but you can't really beat the price.
oh... i could so use that lovely little jacket right now!
i love it... and... i think the ruffles and the sparkles are perfect for daywear!
hope you recover from your cold quickly... i think it may take me awhile as my lovely little kiddlings bring in a new one each and every day... (or, so it seems)
eeeeenteresting.
i don't see apc as retro as much as i see martin as current. now tell me if that makes any sense to you?!
i do see that apc has a ... shtick, if you will. and their things tend to look best when worn with other apc things, or apc-related things (similar cuts). despite the simplicity, the brand is not exactly a blank slate.
i feel like a.p.c. relies on a modern interpretation of 40-70s patterns, colorways, and silhouettes for the majority of its designs. not that that's a bad thing.
i haven't seen enough of martin to know where it's coming from or where it's going, but i like that its sleeker silhouettes are also casual and comfortable to wear. it actually seems a bit 90s to me (not in a disparaging way). the truth is, i'm not quite sure what 'current' fashion is anymore. i need to think more about this...
Nice denim! I've been curious about the Martin clothing line, it seems to focus on basics (and now that NYtimes featured it most of their products are sold out!) and I like most of the things I see there.
I also am not sure about the term "current." Or, perhaps, we should start making a distinction between "fashion" and "style" hmm.
love the Mayle Jacket Erica, it looks fabulous on you!
Hope you're feeling better -- both pieces are super lovely.
Great jacket and jeans -- I had no idea Martin was back (I have written to get wait-listed for the jeans you're wearing, and the black cotton moleskin jacket). It's interesting -- I only have one Martin piece (the same jacket, but in beige) and I think of the style as just perfectly cut and modern without a timeframe, but maybe it is 90s.
I wrote into you about the Isabel Marant dress you won -- it looks great on you! I really love belting it up high; it's a cool twist.
Do you hem the jeans yourself, or do you have someone tailor them for you? Do you know someone in Cambridge who tailors jeans?
Penny
carissa-
i hope you get your martin jacket. everything seems to have a wait list now.
penny-
i hem my own jeans by hand, but i really should have them done professionally. i've heard that elegant tailors on mass ave (towards porter square) is good with simple tailoring jobs. don't go to arrow street cleaners! my old roommate had a terrible experience with them.
