more on the thea dress
just got back from houston. i don't know how people can travel for business every month, i always get so frazzled when i have to travel....all that waiting at airports and killing time in dreary hotels....
anyway, la garconne posted better images of the thea, and other mayle holiday pieces, and all i can say is that i'm even more in love with this collection.
but the sleeves are shorter than the lookbook version, and i can't decide whether this is a good thing or not. i was a little partial to the longer length for some reason.
oh, and the madras pieces came last week, but i returned the plaid top because it's too boxy and short in the torso. i was worried the gradient dress would be too shapeless, but it fits me pretty well. i'll post photos today or tomorrow, once i recover.

I noticed that the sleeves were shorter too. While I still want Thea (in the putty, and Theodora in persimmon), I prefer the sample's longer sleeves.
How was Houston? I used to live there and loved it. I was in the Montrose area (one of the more artsy areas near the center) and it was a great place to live. I have great affection for Houston, its food, people and general oddness.
I am loving the Mayle Veva Dress... it looks like something I could wear on an everyday basis - of course, if I were to spend that much money on Mayle I would probably buy the Jeanne or Billie Bag!
it's still lovely, though i agree that i like the longer sleeves better. i stopped into bird today but only saw the black version. i would really like to see the putty one in real life. sadly, bird ran out of the odette coat in my size, so i'll have to stalk it online.
i just found your blog and love the images and clothing. everything is so sweet and dreamy, two qualities i love. and i think the idea for a clothes swapping blog is fabulous. i will definitely participate!
It's a shame about the sleeves - why would they do that?
The neck is so pretty though that it's hard to be too disappointed.
I tried the black Thea on in Bird today. I think it runs a little small, especially in the back. I fit into an 8 fine but would prefer a 10. The black is almost a grey and doesn't show the detail but is very pretty nonetheless (I'm hoping for the putty). The fabric is quite thin, so it is definitely more of a spring dress.
Moya, is last season's Mayle on sale in store, do you know how many percent, I am lemming the Veva and Hilaire Dress, just hoping that they will be 60-70% off soon.
Hilaire is 40% off as it is pre-fall. It should be down to 60% soon--I imagine another week/two weeks. Veva isn't on sale yet at Mayle--there are a lot of them around in the smaller size. It is 40% off at Barneys. Mayle haven't started the first round of fall reductions yet--they usually start after Thanksgiving. Fall will probably go down to 60% off in mid-January if it is like any other year. I think they are sticking to their regular schedule even though everybody else has started their sales early--probably because this is the final season and they don't have to raise capital to fund the next line or make payments on production.
moya-
thanks for the review. knowing that it's more of a spring dress will hopefully keep me from paying full price right now...i think i would probably want to try it on, too.
jeanette-
veva is 30% off right now odessa in portland, but i am still anxiously waiting for the 50-60% sales....
still working on a name for the clothing blog, can't believe it's taking me this long to figure it out! it should be up this weekend, i think.
I think they changed the fabric from the sample--as well as the sleeves. It is a really light weight silk whereas the sample looks more like a stronger silk or silk acetate blend.
According to Odessa's website, Mayle is 50% off. I just emailed them to find out if this is a typo and will share what I find. I may snag a coat.
Odessa has Mayle for 50% off with Veva in all sizes!
moya-
thanks for checking, they marked them down even more pretty quickly!
which coat are you getting?
i want the veva!
I know--I actually emailed them to check it wasn't an error. I could wait longer but don't want to risk losing anything to save $150--in the long term, it won't be worth it.
I'm getting Ludovine as soon as they open--I was going to wait but the Mayle coats this season are moving fast and seem to be selling out in the bigger sizes. I anticipate Mayle won't reduce more than 60% off so if need be, I get a second Ludovine in birdseye--Odessa only has it in black. They don't have Odette. I am going to wait for their next markdown and get Aiko in black. $240 is still a lot for another black cardigan that isn't cashmere, especially as Inhabit's sale will be in a couple of weeks.
Are you getting Veva? It runs on the small side, just so you know. If I get it, I'll certainly get a 10. It is narrower in the skirt/hips than it looks online.
I told Susan at Odessa I'd spread the word--I'm really impressed with them and their discounts, not to mention they charge less for the full price items than anybody else.
I noticed Jake sold out virtually everything except one Ludovine, one of the Laetitia skirts and Tama. I am beginning to think eluxury will be one of the best sources for Mayle this year, once they have reductions.
Veva is $280 at Odessa,btw.
Thanks Moya and Erica, I am going to do more thinking about the Veva, it is lovely but I have quite a few Mayle dresses already, the rising US dollar exchange rate has also made everything almost 30% more expensive. I am hoping I can get it on Hejfina if they bring the price down more. I am loving the holiday collection, its really a shame that the Mayle store have to close, her talents are just enormous, the Allegra, Olympia, and I have to get the Hera. Zoe is currently offering 40% discount on their jackets and coats with the code 8331064, they have Mayle in all sizes including 10.
