on thursday leon and i went to barneys at copley plaza. i was shocked to find that they do not carry any acne. stels no longer carries it, either, so it looks like i won't be able to try on the hexs any time soon.
j brand, the skinny, 10" leg opening, size 27, on sale for $109 in dark grey (from $178).
i thought this was a perfectly fine skinny jean. maybe it was the lighter shade, but somehow it made me feel like my legs were stumpier than usual. the inseam is a bit long, so i would definitely have to hem them, but overall they're unobjectionable. i did find the waistband cut in a little, but nothing too uncomfortable. there's probably a reason why half of barney's denim bar is devoted to this jean, but i wasn't convinced.
james jeans, twiggy, size 26, $114 in black cat.
this jean was well worth finding in a smaller size. last time i tried it on in a 29, and it turns out i'm a 26 in these (go down one size). i love how these feel, very stretchy, soft, and comfortable. the waistband fit perfectly, and i really liked the shorter inseam (29"). i would have bought these except i didn't care for the wash. the visible white threads felt too messy for me. i prefer an overall faded soft black wash like my R13s or the Current/Elliott skinny jeans. i definitely recommend these if you want a pair of skinny jeans that are as comfortable as leggings, but with more substance.
i think we're going to go back to natick this week and try on a pair of levis.

erica...ever since i heard that emmanuelle alt wears h&m grey jeans (and since her signature look is the grey jeans etc)...(i ran off to the store) and found that they fit me super as well....you could try them...
I often wear my Levis Midrise....So comfy...Levis has so many options, it is overwhelming.
If you do not like the color but like the fit, go online for Levis. One caveat, sometimes the stretch content varies. I would look online and then go to the store.
Erica, I am a fan of Levis 545 skinny jeans in their dark wash. My only complaint is that they do sit awfully low, which is problematic when I'm working on photo shoots. I just ordered and received (without trying on first) Earnest Sewn's Esra in Super Blue. They claim to be high-waisted and I think that is a bit of a stretch. I love the color and they feel substantial like jeans. They will require a bit of lint-rolling, though. Love your blog.
on a related note, does anyone know what happened to earnest sewn jeans? they used to be sold everywhere and i've never owned a pair from them...anyone have experience with their styles?
like this series that you're doing :)
i think the j brand looks great on you! but you have to feel that way too...i will say that i have about 10 pairs of j brand (mostly 12 inch and 10 inch) and have tried on many more...even the same style (ie 10 inch skinnies) fit differently depending on the wash.
The J brands look great on you! They've got my vote so far.
miss sophie-
i've only worn their keatons, which are a standard bootcut. i don't know what happened to them, either, i used to be able to find them at bloomingdales. totokaelo still carries the line.
