new a.p.c. skirt, whirlwind trip to nyc
matthew and i went to nyc on saturday (we drove) to photograph a public housing project for his studio. we went to the new museum to look at the elizabeth peyton exhibition, and then muji for pens and notebooks. i also went to bird in cobble hill, where i found the most perfect [maternity] knit mini skirt. i tried on two of mociun's tulip skirt tie-front dresses, but i looked absolutely terrible in both. i guess if you feel like a beach ball, wearing a bubble skirt is probably a Very Bad Idea. so naturally i grabbed the a.p.c. knit skirt as a consolation prize/purchase.
it was only $120, but now that i've thought more about it, i'm guessing it wouldn't be too hard to knit and piece together my own version: wide waistband of stretchy ribbed knit, slight a-line shape, sturdy wool yarn, and a small decorative hem.
today was a thoroughly a.p.c. day--cape, cashmere pullover, and knit skirt. the striped top is from jcrew, and i also bought new wool leggings. it must be fall when you're dressed from head to toe in knits.
i was also very excited by the black squirrel, although it looks quite feral and unfriendly....

that cape is so cute on you.
Love the Frye boots!
gorgeous outfit, the stripe top looks very APC as well.
hey. was this apc skirt at the regular shop? It's so cute and cheap!
I love, love, love that cape. And the skirt looks nice and cozy.
I love seeing your creative solutions to maternity wear!
Those are Frye boots? Which ones? They're beautiful!
juliet-
i didn't go to the apc store, so i'm not sure...
am-
they're the paige tall riding boots from last year. you can still buy them online, i think.
That skirt looks deliciously cozy.
Such a cute ensemble.
you look ADORABLE!! i love the cape. i'm excited to go to the new museum. my friend and i are heading there today.
The cape, the skirt, the boots, the squirrel - I'll take them all! We get a few bits and bobs of APC here, but it's slim pickings sadly.
you look terrific.
pass along any tips on where to find wool tights. i need new ones every year.
Wow! I just love that skirt, it is so cute on you. Sounds like a fun trip to New York. I am one of those people that always would like to cuddle tiny animals with fur, so I understand your feelings towards the adorable squirrel.
Hello!,
Love the sweater skirt!
Though I know they're not at all the point of your post, I want to ask about your boots. I happen to have tried a pair of the very same style, and am considering buying them. I'm weighing them against a pair of slouchier (more room for less carefully tucked-in jeans) boots from F-troupe.
Are you happy with these particular Frye boots?
Any input will be appreciated!
i love my boots and can't recommend them enough. i put on a protective rubber sole, but they've held up really well after one snowy winter. they aren't as comfortable (supportive) as my prada sport riding boots, but i love the taller height of these and find they aren't too hard to tuck in my bootcut earnest sewn keatons. my other boots really need skinny jeans for an easy on/off.
it didn't take very long to break them in, either, and they're incredibly well made for the price point.
I love the skirt (especially with the APC cape) and the squirrel too. Our NYC squirrels are feisty but they are quite sweet.
they are indeed feisty! i was afraid that this one was going to eat me, it looked so determined...is it true that the black ones are endangered?
I love the knit skirt! Benetton has some this year too, and I'm thinking of getting one. I wish I could knit it myself though!
I heard the black squirrels were just a color mutation--evidently they are the same as grey squirrels.
Also, I wanted to let you know that the (London) Times had your APC cape featured this week as one of the best items for fall.
Oh, that skirt is AMAZING. I hope you're feeling well these days!
both outfits are perfect! i love squirrels so much. i wish one could live with me.
these outfits are wonderful. i want to curl up in them!
