photo of henri labrouste's bibliotheque ste. genevieve, from here.we're flying out christmas evening from nyc and returning on new year's day. neither of us have been to paris, and my adviser generously offered his apartment for the week. i'm a bit iffy on traveling during the third trimester, but my midwife's office says it's fine. i guess i better start brushing up on my conversational french, i haven't spoken it in over 6 years...

Yay! And good for you. Your midwife's office is right, and as my OB would say..."they have doctors in France too, you know." I went to Sweden (from SF) in my third trimester with no probs. And even if you started having contractions three minutes after your flight took off, first labors are usually so long that it'd just mean you had something to do on the flight...statistically, it's insanely unlikely that you'd deliver on the plane. If you think like that (I did). Enjoy Paris, it's a wonderful town!
How fun! Don't worry too much about the traveling. Just wear compression hose, stay hydrated and walk around frequently. I flew during my third tri, and I did swell up quite a bit, but it was fine.
I love Paris and hope you have the best time there. You are going to go shopping crazy I am sure.

ps. i totally agree about the ugliness of modern bicycle helmets. i wish they'd make some that look like horse-back riding helmets, those are so chic! xo
Tres bien! I am sure, in Paris, you will be able to get along fine with the bare minimum but speaking a little of the native language would make it more fun. How awfully exciting.
And I agree with the compression hosiery comment - I went on a 12 hour journey in my fifth month and it was very uneventful (in the growing-a-baby sense). I even climbed the Great Wall in 30 degree C heat (this I do not recommend though). The compression socks may even be nice to wear nearer the end of the pregnancy, especially as your weather will be cooler. Enjoy!

as long as my health holds up and i'm not too cranky (how can you be cranky in paris in december?), i think it's going to be such an amazing trip.

Lucky you!! That is the exact same time I was there last year. I was hoping for snow, but it was just as magical without. Being in Paris you just can't complain, can you.
