mayle galina for sale {sold}

worn a few times while in paris two years ago, my mayle galina jacket has turned into a museum piece, just for looking. i hate being ruthless, but there's no point in owning something meant to be worn if i never wear it.
size 8, although it fits me (6).
shoulders: 15 1/2"
chest: 13 1/2" where the black jacquard meets the wool body, and 19" pit-to-pit (hard to measure because of the pleats that are both front and back)
length: 25"
pristine condition

email with any reasonable offers

sven clogs (sold!)

i give up. i wore them to the playground twice. walked around the house in them every few days for three weeks. but i think i have to accept that they're too small for me. i couldn't get used to the heel, either.

size 39 (8-8 1/2)
2 3/4" heel
paid $160 in nyc
asking $85, includes shipping (i threw away the box)

email me if you're interested.

mayle for sale: new mirabelle in black, size 6 [SOLD]

i'm very sad to let this go, but i'm never going to wear it. i bought it from the elizabeth st. shop in february. it's a heavy silk, fully lined, and drapes beautifully. i'll add measurements tomorrow morning, but it's a loose fitting dress. it could probably even accommodate a size 8. the hem hits a few inches above the knee, obviously not as short as on the model. works best with heels, of which i don't own a single pair!

SOLD, thanks!

sunja link raglan sleeve dress (for sale)

EDIT:
taken!

so my sunja link dress arrived the other day, and it's really lovely, but unfortunately for me, a bit too snug in the shoulders. with a small baby to look after, i need maximum flexibility when it comes to my arms, so this dress isn't going to make sense for me. i ordered it directly from sunja link, and she doesn't accept returns. sigh. when will i ever learn to try things on before ordering them from places that don't accept returns??

if anyone is interested, please email me.

details:
size--M (fits a 6 or small 8)
fabric--55% linen, 45% rayon, black and white weave (looks greyish). i think this fabric will become very soft with repeated wearings.
shoulders--15.5" (approximately, raglan sleeves)
chest--19.5" (best for smaller chest, probably no bigger than a 34B)
empire waist--17.5"
length--27" from empire waist

fit:
this dress will work better with someone with narrower shoulders. i am 5'5" and it falls slightly below the knees on me. the v-neck is quite deep, also, so i would recommend wearing a camisole underneath. it is such an easy dress to wear, you just pull it over your shoulders. so perfect for spring and summer. i would pair it with leggings and an open-front cardigan. it also works well with a long-sleeved shirt underneath.

price:
i paid $230, new without tags, asking $150, including shipping.
there's also an XS for sale (same price, $150, free shipping) on ebay.

mociun ikat dress update

my mociun ikat dress arrived today from beklina, and i am so bummed because it is even more beautiful in person but too small! and i'm not just saying this because i'm 8.5 months pregnant--it is too tight in the shoulders and high waist, and that will not change post delivery. it's actually a bit annoying because if it were just 1 1/2" wider around the waist, it would be perfect. i should have ordered the medium...i wanted this to be my go-to summer dress.

unfortunately it was a final sale, and i can either put it on ebay or see if anyone here wants to buy it. obviously i'd love to get back what i paid ($170), i'll pay for shipping (usps with delivery confirmation).

the fabric is medium-heavy weight, very sturdy yet soft. it is also very very short (but adorably so), and probably better suited to someone who is a size 4 and 5'5" or shorter (i'm perfectly comfortable with the length, and i'm 5'5").

here are the measurements (flat)
shoulders: 17 1/4"
length of bodice: 11 1/2" (from back of the neck to high waist)
high waist: 15" (just under the bust)
total length: 31"
hem opening: 19" (tulip skirt)

UPDATE: Beklina is letting me exchange the dress for a medium, hooray!

another update:
the medium sold out before i could exchange it, so i'm getting the large instead. the measurements look pretty much identical except the empire waist is 17" instead of 16" across. shouldn't be a problem with the adjustable tie-front.

oh, and if you're looking for this dress in a small or medium, ooga booga (a fantastic store in LA's chinatown) has it for $150.

some things aren't meant to be

i bought matthew this mociun striped t-shirt first, but i liked it so much, i wanted one for myself.
but now i'm feeling a bit silly. people already make fun of us for dressing in similar outfits.
is anyone interested in taking this off my hands? originally $84, asking price $58. size small (loose fit). SOLD!

sigh. this one makes me particularly sad. i've coveted these rachel comey clog heels all season.
but honestly? the other day i nearly twisted my ankle in my dankso maryjanes (1" heel).
there's no way i can ever learn to walk in 3" heels. plus, matthew kind of, sort of, hates them.
originally $250, asking price $170. size 38 (runs slightly large to true-to-size).

i bought both these items on sale and only want to make back what i spent. the mociun tee is from impulse and is non-returnable. the rachel comeys can be returned to raye in houston, but only for store credit.

if you have something that you know i might like (crafts-related items), i would be willing to consider a much reduced monetary amount plus that something else.

worse case scenario, i keep the shirt and return the shoes.

update:::the shoes went back to houston.

buyer's remorse

these two things i bought in houston have been worrying me the past few days. i know i shouldn't have bought them, but oh how i wanted them anyway. matthew agreed that i may as well try and sell them on ebay. i set reserve prices so i won't lose any money on them. if they don't sell, i'll be out $10 in listing fees. when will i ever learn? the grey ant top is amazing, but it keeps falling off my shoulder (annoying). the lyell dress is absolutely perfect. it is lightweight, breezy, drapes fiendishly well, and is the first dress i ever bought that fits me in the chest. in retrospect, i should have held off on the grey ant top. that way, i wouldn't be feeling so guilty about the dress, which i truly love. maybe by the time i'm 30 i'll be more prudent about my purchases. knowing me, likely not.

not ready to celebrate

but i have really fabulous news!

someone wants to buy my first wedding dress. after 1 1/2 years of posting it on www.preownedweddingdresses.com, i have a real potential buyer. i had a few nibbles over the year, but they would always ask me to reduce the price drastically or would simply change their minds. i don't blame them, it's a hard thing to buy your wedding dress online.

anyway, this is what i could have looked like on my wedding day:

as you may remember, this is what i ended up wearing. totally different look. both could have worked, but this one was so much more exciting.

you know the drill:

Dress 1-- Altered Bride Boston lace strapless gown, $2200, sold for $500 (unworn condition)
Dress 2-- Vera Wang silk organza with hand embroidery, $6500, paid $900 at a bridal outlet

net loss (including alterations fees): $2900.

i keep telling myself how amazing the Vera Wang was and how beautifully the pictures of it turned out. but still, do you know what i could have bought for that much money? a super lightweight laptop (thinkpad x60s, yeah!) and a vintage dress from thefrock.com suitable for bridal wear. i am never getting married again, no matter how much i enjoy designing my own stationary or making up a gift registry.

ebay tooth decay

I just came back from the dentist. I have over $2000 of work that needs to be done including wisdom teeth extraction and fillings. My front tooth, which was knocked out when I was 10, root canal-ed when I was 13, and crowned at 17, is dying and will need to be replaced by a completely fake, screwed-in type of thing (I'm not even a hockey player, I lost the tooth while rollerskating backwards). My new dentist is very nice, and he seemed genuinely sorry when he told me the bad news about the tooth. I have a feeling it will cost about $1000 more. Thanks Harvard for the shitty dental insurance option!!! Once upon a time, Harvard offered dental that cost $130 and included up to $1300 of work, now they offer a crappy $175 for a cleaning, four bitewing x-rays, and consultation. When I started the program, I enrolled in a now defunct Harvard dental plan that was $220 for ONE cleaning, four x-rays, and $400 of coverage. No wonder people stopped enrolling. Delta Dental through Harvard is not much better, though I really like my dentist. He's sympathetic to the graduate student's abject poverty, at least.

Which brings me to a major concern. I buy too much shit. I have run my credit cards into the ground. I don't even have cash for my Vietnam trip or to cover rent past April. Now, I know the New York Times had an article about people debt-blogging. Initially, this blog was supposed to serve a similar purpose, but then I decided a different strategy. I hoped that by photographing my outfits, I would convince myself that I had endless options and didn't require anything new. Boy was I wrong. My spending habit hasn't changed, I still spend more than I earn or can afford to set aside for clothing.

So, I'm selling a bunch of things on ebay, including:

Built By Wendy Great Lakes dress--paid $155, sold for $45. (love love love, but never wear it)

Oilily skirt--paid $100, sold $35 (too long for my frame, cute print, though).

Mayle Goya jumper-- asking price $150 (it's too big, the straps keep falling down, goddammit! design flaw or my fault? i coveted this dress for so so long, and now i need to give it up because i'm massively in debt. but i look so cute in it!)

EDIT: ok, i lied, i'm not selling it. i simply can't do it. i went through too much to give it up.

EDIT: i'm selling it.

UPDATE: Sold $355!

Built By Wendy denim miniskirt--paid $65, asking price $15 (hardly wear it nowadays)

UPDATE: it didn't sell. oh well!

Miu Miu pencil skirt--paid $155, asking price $85 (i'm too fat for this skirt. damn this dissertation sitting on my ass snacking my way through winter crap).

UPDATE: not sold. now i have a good reason to lose some weight.

Anyway, I'm switching formats on this blog. From now on I'll use it to post photos of my Vietnam trip and dissertation research. You know, the important stuff.

EDIT: I'm also selling this awesome Built By Wendy jacket that I've only worn 3 times in the past two years. There's a bid right now for $49. I paid $155.

I also returned this great jcrew camp shirt that I bought on sale for $49.99. I bought my favorite perfume and some lotion on Sephora and it will be arriving today. I'll be going to the mall to return that, also. $79. I ordered shoes from Creatures of Comfort that are arriving tomorrow. Cute Maloles flats, $69. Unfortunately, they are non-returnable. And I used my debit card. Damnation.

UPDATE: sold, $50 (oh well).

no more eBay, i mean it this time

aargh! so, I have this eBay problem where I keep buying things that are not fantastic in person. You'd think that trusted labels like Marni, T Luxury, Petro Zillia, Claudie Pierlot, etc., would be worth bidding on without actually trying on the damn thing first. Well, I think I've been proven definitively wrong.

Exhibit A (the last straw):

Ok, so you think, the color is a little weird and the cut is "interesting," but it's Marni and that's kind of the point, no? And I think I can pull off strange olive green-gold hues pretty well.

Exhibit B:

Yikes. What the hell is going on with the back? Some sort of strange bias-cut drapery action that makes me look like I had gastric-bypass surgery without the skin stapling. Maybe I'm just not avant-garde enough to appreciate this top, but really, this is too much. I hope someone else fancies it, because I'm re-selling it on eBay. Oh, and the T-Luxury camisole that I bought is much longer in the torso than I had imagined. I'm so over the extra long cami. Decent coverage is one thing, but really, don't you think clothing designers have gone a bit overboard?

Marni top--$70 including s&h (that's another thing that annoys me: extravagant shipping costs. why charge $10 when the postage is only for $5.50?)

Starting bid on my auction--$19.99

oh my.
