a.p.c. navy raincoat with toggle closures, plaid lining and detachable hood, $410 ($430 on www.shopzoeonline.com, $458 at www.apc.fr)
a.p.c. double breasted sweater with wood buttons, $296
steven alan plaid shirt, $164
a.p.c. military dress, dark grey, $208
all clothing at Impulse
most of the mociun is now sold out at impulse, but i'm sure you could find her dresses in various nyc shops if you live nearby (and act quickly). i can't wait to see the rest of steven alan's plaid shirts. i'm trying to plan a nyc excursion in the next few weeks. we'll see if a.p.c. lets me take photos of their clothing at the store. mayle, probably not. lyell, probably. opening ceremony, who knows?

i'm still kicking myself for not buying this a.p.c. trench coat last october. although, i did buy two new winter coats (opening ceremony short sleeve flare coat and lyell dark purple peacoat), so i shouldn't be complaining. nonetheless, i believe that a wardrobe is not complete until a trench coat is hanging in your closet. a.p.c. sold them in a light grey this spring, but i want navy or black. god. just looking at this photo makes me so sad. the entire outfit is a.p.c. (excluding pants and shoes), and every item is still so good. i'm also annoyed that i bought my husband this sweater for christmas because that meant i couldn't buy it for myself. talk about making sacrifices in a marriage!

i want the double breasted sweater.
that trench is a beaut. it's a classic so i have a feeling it'll be coming back in the colors you want.
don't hate me for asking...but what is a.p.c. and why does everyone seem to know the brand except me? is it a brand or the name of a designer? i'm clueless!
a.p.c. is designed by jean touitou (i've linked his blog and the store's website). it stands for atelier de production et creation (i think), and is known for really well made, perfectly fitted clothing that can appear banal at times. a little bit preppy, a little bit 60s/70s. i don't think it's for everyone, especially the denim, but it certainly seems to have achieved cult status. there are two stores in the US, nyc and la.
i haven't had a good basic coat for a few winters... that apc toggle coat is great. hmmm, a good investment?
thanks for the info! i shall trek to the nearest store and peek around...
lena--
i wonder how warm the coat is? it's supposed to be a raincoat (polyurethane?), so i imagine it isn't very bulky. the plaid lining is great, but i don't think it's flannel or wool. Impulse has the coat in a dark wool plaid, also, but it's more expensive ($620!!)
i love the peter pan collar on this one.
I agree with you on all counts - A.P.C. is great. I also LOVE Mayle - I am thinking of getting the Izolda dress in Berry (featured on the impulse site and shopjake.com) What do you think? I am totally on the fence/ BTW I read your blog all the time!
the izolde dress is great! i love the flirty asymmetrical ruffle, and the color is beautiful. personally, i wouldn't buy it, but only because it's too 'nice' for me. i could definitely see it working for both cocktail parties and work. it's very demure yet off-kilter, which is what makes Mayle so much fun. i really like it with the cardigan and tights, it looks very cozy yet put-together.
ten thousand--
let me know your thoughts on a.p.c. some of my friends love it, for others, it doesn't seem to work quite right.
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback on th izolde! I have never been a dress person, but this past year I have been a complete addict! I bought the Mayle Katia dress (featured on th impulse blog) I LOVE it - it so me. I need to stop shopping! I love the APC toggle raincoat, although I think prefer last year's trench - but I am not sure whether I just like the way clothing fits on Olivia more (the impulse model) .
i totally agree with you about dresses. i've bought so many in the past year because it's like they're calling to me. but now, i don't know what to do with them all. they're supposed to be the easy wardrobe solution, but they're no good for biking or doing library work. i need to come up with more reasons to go out, i guess.
as for olivia, i know what you mean. everything looks good on her. in person she is so teeny. i felt like an unattractive, overweight, galumphing oaf standing next to her!
You have a great figure and your outfits look so smart on you. And please note that this is how you look in pictures which supposedly add 10 lbs! -- So no self deprecating comments please! ;)
i know, i know!
but you wouldn't believe how tiny olivia is in person!
the camera is such a tricky thing. it's all about scale, too.
i'm actually in a very good place right now about myself. i've been feeling so much healthier since i started biking and jogging more frequently.
it sounds like you have an amazing wardrobe!
oh... yeah, i didn't realize the apc toggle is a raincoat. i thought it was wool...
i love seeing all these coat photos! now if only i could afford to buy one : (
Hello, so I bought the Izolde dress - it fits and it is very pretty but I don't LOVE it. I know I should return it but b/c I used a coupon code I am somehow rationalizing that it is a bargain and should keep it. How skewed is that logic? I really do not think I would have paid full price for it. Therefore, I should return it! Right? self-restraint, self-restraint.
I adore your wedding pics btw. - M
oh that sucks! if you don't love the dress, you should return it. i, too, have fallen into the trap of discount shopping many a time. i've learned the hard way that it's better to return it than try to love it OR attempt to make money off it on eBay!
i really really need to go to nyc and see all the new fall things.
I returned the Mayle dress and I actually feel good about it. I know there will be more amazing stuff to come. I am finally getting excited about fall clothes (my favorite season). I like the Tom Scott sweater, although I am not familiar with his line. Hope you are doing well. -M
M-
i know what you mean about waiting for the rest of the fall stuff to come out. i really need to do a wardrobe inventory before i start buying things for the season.
i love the deep plum color of the Mayle dress. i'm hoping to find a nice top in a similar shade, it seems to be a popular color this year.
what sort of things are you in the market for this season? boots, coats, sweaters, dresses? i always manage to convince myself that i need yet another coat!
The color of the dress is what drew me to it too (if anyone is interested I returned a size 4 to Jake Chicago). J. Crew has some cute knits in a vibrant purple hue if you are interested. One of my favorite purchases this year is the cropped trench by J.Crew - so cute. Although I went and bought another cropped trench-style jacket by Mayle for this Fall (probably not the most clever move). I really want Loeffler Randall's Matilde boot in cuoio- I tried them on last winter and they were on sale - but I was 8 months pregnant at the time ( I felt so HUGE) and was not sure whether they would be in style this year, etc. Needless to say , I completely regret not buying them. I probably will not be able to stomach paying full price for them. Do you have any recommendations on a great and COMFORTABLE boot? I also want a great pair of pumps - I love the A.P.C. beige suede pair Impulse's Olivia is wearing. I purchased 2 Mayle sweaters (at the Mayle trunk show) - Normally, I never buy this much in August but the Fall/Winter deliveries are in so early. I love coats too - I seem to buy them in cycles. I can go 4 years without buying a coat and then I will buy 3 in one season.
oh man, i can't believe you returned those Loeffler Randall boots! a friend nearly bought the Kat boots in cuoio for 50% off but decided at the last minute against it. i bought the Birtie boots (shorter, with grommets) on ebay for $230. honestly, nothing gives me a bigger headache than boot-shopping! why is it so impossible to buy a nice-looking comfortable pair for under $300? two years ago i bought a pair of prada sport riding boots on Yoox. They are incredibly comfortable, but a size too big (i always forget that italian sizes run larger than french).
i covet olivia's a.p.c. pumps so much, too! i don't wear heels, but i'm pretty sure i would have worn those.
i love the j crew cropped trench, but i think i'd better buy a proper one first! i'll keep a lookout for boots and pumps, though...
I know, I regret not buying the boots but I am hopeful that I will find another pair that I will love. What do you think of the patent leather LR boots? - I am not so sure. Impulse has great stuff posted - I love the Dessous undergarments. I hope you were able to make it to NYC.
