rachel comey tempts yet again

remember these from february?
well anyway, they're on sale for $140 (sizes 8.5, 9, and 9.5).
just sayin'. i mean, it's not like i'm going to buy them again. but if you have hardier feet than me, now might be the time to act.

a.p.c. fall

i'm in love again.

i'm about 95% positive i'll get the yellow peacoat. i love the grey flannel top, but i'm balking on the price ($225). as for the dress, the print is perfect, but i'm not sure about the bow. apc dresses have been fitting a bit strangely for the past few seasons. and yet, it looks terrific with the trench.

now i need to go sit in a corner and meditate on whether or not i need the black vanya dress by mayle (from fall 07/08, marked down to $312), which would be so perfect with tights and oxfords. the thing is, i could have bought the dress at bird last spring for $200, so maybe i should wait for it to show up on ebay again.

why are all the autumn collections so darn tempting?!?

the great oxford hunt continues

well, it must be almost autumn again. so during the past year i bought and returned two different pairs of rachel comey oxfords. not to mention the year before that. lesson learned, no rachel comey shoes for me.

impulse had a pair of grey suede opening ceremony oxfords on sale last month, but i decided to pass on them.

i also coveted a pair of cut-out f-troupes, but bird didn't have them in my size.

so, what next?
take these frye oxfords, for example. i like the dark brown leather, but i'm less than thrilled by the back buckle.

i suppose i could keep scouring thrift shops (etsy and elsewhere), but my feet are too ornery for no-returns policies.

i like these tracey neuls, but i'm not sure the dark green color will work with my outfits. if i liked black more, i would definitely buy a pair of repettos, but apparently i have my heart set on dark brown. has anyone seen a pair of well-made, comfortable brown oxfords for under $300? i would love to have a pair of practical autmn shoes before i switch to my winter boots.

what i did on my summer vacation

first, we went to a fourth of july weekend wedding in rhode island. i helped make flower pompoms, and a friend officiated.

a few days later a friend and i went to d.c. to visit friends from college and grad school. i didn't take too many photos because i was too busy wilting in the heat. we stayed at the tabard inn, which was infinitely charming (but very very dark inside). i also ran into renee by chance in georgetown. she recognized me in that sunshine and shadow dress.

the day after we returned from d.c., matthew and i hopped on a plane to portland. i was fitted for my new sandals at sara barner's studio (they should be here soon). matthew had an espresso at stumptown and decided it was in his top 10. i went to a few stores but liked canoe the best. the carry-on chopsticks are exactly what i need. after a few hours in the city, we drove down to eugene to meet his parents. for the next six days, very little was accomplished. i ate too much junkfood and napped on the deck.

after a delayed flight, missed connection, and 3-hr 'night's rest' at the red roof inn in burlingame, we finally made it home yesterday afternoon. i'm taking the day off to clean the house, play with the cats, and catch up on my blogroll. i hope everyone has been having a good july so far...

a.p.c. madras, his shirt

so, apparently you're not supposed to put this shirt in the dryer. it shrank just enough that it's too tight in the shoulders for matthew.

i guess it's mine now.

a.p.c. madras shirt for him
saint grace tank top
theory black denim miniskirt

wiksten--striped everyday shirt

I've been having a strange, stressful week, but oh man, Jenny's new striped Ellybeth top put a huge smile on my face!

In the shop on Saturday (note the button detail).

We're off to NYC tomorrow morning on business, will be back late Saturday. I owe a few of you packages, I promise they'll be shipped sooner rather than later. Like I said, it's been a strange week....

[on a side note, the a.p.c. sale sure flew off the shelves! Impulse is having its summer sale, as are so many other wonderful shops like Stel's, Creatures of Comfort, Otte, Kick Pleat, et al.]

ella moss top

i bought this at barneys coop a few years ago and wore it enough to throw it in the wash a couple of times. for some reason, this neckline does nothing for me, and i've grown to dislike banded hems. anyway, what drew me to the top initially was the green melange fabric. i seem to remember reinforcing a seam once, but now i can't find it. anyway, this top has mini fuzzies (you know how these poly-rayon blends can be), but overall, they blend into the fabric coloring.

size S
measurements (lying flat)
shoulders: 12"
chest: 14.5"
hem (unstretched, but very stretchy): 13.5"
length from shoulders: 21.5"

grey ant top

i bought this grey ant top last summer at raye in houston. i've learned that shopping while traveling often leads to buyer's remorse. i love the top, but it's one of those wardrobe pushers that never worked. it's made of a really interesting seersucker-like fabric, with an extremely wide neckline, triangular cut out in front, partially slit sleeves, side vents, and the most comfortable loose fit ever. that said, i never felt like 'me' in this top, so i only wore it twice.

i just gave it a hand wash and will do a gentle ironing before i ship it.

size small (very loose fit, will work for a variety of body types)
measurements (lying flat):
shoulders: 16"
bust: 21"
length from shoulders: 24"

marimekko top

this was the first top i bought with my hard earned paycheck in seattle. unfortunately, i haven't worn it since 2004. marimekko has the best prints and fabrics, and this top is perfect for the summer. not too-plunging v-neck, loose fit, flounced hem, and side zipper.

size 6 (runs small, better suited to a 4)
measurements (lying flat):
shoulders: 13"
bust: 16"
waist: 15"
hem: 17.5"
length from shoulder: 21"

Aftermath, of course!

miu miu pencil skirt, fall 2005 RTW

miu miu black wool pencil skirt with cosy paisley appliques and pockets, worn once. i tried selling this on ebay for $85, but there were no takers (sigh). i love this skirt, but i guess i'm not really into narrow pencil skirts. plus, it's still a bit snug in the hips (learning to accept my body is part of this project).

made of the softest virgin wool, fully lined, small slit in the back, and oh so chic!

italian size 40
measurements (lying flat):
high waist: 13.5"
hips: 18"
hem: 16.5"
length: 27"

blissen wallet

you probably know by now that i buy a lot of clothing. during the next two days i will be giving away some of my nice, gently worn/used things. they make me wish i had a sister to share my clothing with.

my blog is about sharing lovely ideas. so, if you have been lurking, please introduce yourself so i don't feel like i'm giving my things to strangers who are simply passing by.

if anything tickles your fancy, do leave a comment. i will pick a name at random for each item on monday. all i ask is that you reimburse me for shipping costs ($4-8).

a barely used Jill Blissen sheet wallet. i bought it in seattle a while ago, but ended up using a different wallet. it is made of recycled sheets and can be thrown into the wash whenever it gets dirty. it has a small hole at the fold, but this doesn't detract from its functionality.

i think i've found my sandals

Chelsea posted about these custom-fit sandals by Sara Barner. We're going to Oregon next month to visit Matthew's family, so hopefully I can squeeze in an appointment in Portland. They're exactly what I've been looking for, and what with my shoe fit problems, I don't know how I can go wrong with a custom-fit job!

Sara also makes lovely minimalist bags and jewelry.

anniversary no. 2

my pipsqueak chapeau dress came so quickly! a belt wouldn't hurt, but i like how it looks loose, too. matthew has worn his new madras top about five times since i gave it to him last week. i hate it when a.p.c. uses the same awesome print for men and women because now i would feel really silly wearing the dress or button-down shirt. oh, and another gratuitous turtle photo, just because. apparently she likes to snuggle with the ugly dolls.

tomorrow is our official anniversary, but since matthew is working in the evening, we decided to have dinner tonight. we went to our favorite ramen place, then espresso, crepes and frozen yogurt for dessert. i think we're going on a drive tomorrow, and maybe lunch at baraka.
