sorry for all the blah posts, but i've been busy with school things, sending off grant applications, etc. i've also discovered that my wallet is terribly empty after buying something that i'm feeling a bit guilty about, especially since i've been working so hard at saving money. sigh.
anyway, it's finally getting cold, but i refuse to don my parka just yet. so, it looks like Impulse has the right idea with all their fabulous layered outfits. it's hard for me to look at these photos because of my newfound poverty, but they're also pretty darn inspirational. i need to dig around my closet and see what fascinating new combinations i can devise. it's all about being resourceful, right?
in spite of my penury, there is one particular item that i simply must/will buy: the Tova shirt.

rainy day outfit for bicycle
stephanie congdon barnes + new blog
this squirrel will be on sale today at 11am pst on stephanie's etsy site. i've been waiting for him for a while, but my chances of actually buying him are slim. her creations sell pretty darn quickly.
speaking of beautiful handmade things that sell out quickly, it sounds like jenny gordy's wiksten etsy shop will be updated pretty soon. thanks to her, i am now obsessed with 'the fashion diary of Punky B.' even if you can't read french, the photos are incredibly inspiring.

a.p.c. military style dress from last year
s wanted to know if i had any photos of the a.p.c. military style collarless dress. i hope these are the right ones. sorry for the scribbles, i annotated most of the Winter 2006-2007 catalog. i never ended up buying it, even though i labeled it as 'must have.' i decided i'm not really into buttons down the front, although the sleeves are really nice on this dress.

the holiday dress
so, i was flipping through my anthropologie catalog when i saw this dress. i admit, i'm a sucker for 'ethnic' prints. but it made me wonder, do people actually have parties that require dressing up? maybe i'm living in the wrong city, or maybe i'm pursuing the wrong career, but the last time i dressed nicely for a party or outing was for my wedding. i can't even begin to imagine a life that requires such pretty dresses. maybe it's because my day consists of research, writing, dishwashing, cat litter duty, errands, eating in front of the computer, and other mundane things. i love simple, unpretentious get-togethers with dear friends, but sometimes i wonder if dressing-up would makes things even more fun. the problem is, you don't want to stick out like a sore thumb, and, well, most of the parties i attend are extremely casual.
Calico dress, Mayle, $620
the photo doesn't do much for me, but i saw it on a shopgirl and it seemed perfect for both parties and a fun work environment.
