new (to me) apc dress!

tien-ann, who has been posting loads of amazing pieces to laws of general economy, notified me that i won her apc chambray wrap dress. i had been trying to track this down on ebay for years, so i am thrilled that i found it on the clothing blog. i think it'll be perfect for breastfeeding. paired with a chunky long cardigan and boots, it will also work this autumn.

major wardrobe purging

pam's lina rennell top

ratita's tsumori chisato top

carissa's repetto flats

genevieve's corso como riding boots

pam's T by alexander wang dress

laws of general economy has a ton of awesome items available nowadays from a lot of our favorite designers including a.p.c., dace, repetto, lina rennell, mociun, and T by alexander wang.

i am also in the process of ruthlessly cutting my wardrobe down to size. as much as it hurts me, if it doesn't fit or isn't being worn, it's time to say goodbye. pieces include the dace molly rain jacket, mociun ikat tie-front dress, two a.p.c. dresses, and a skirt by uniform studio.

laws of general economy--spring cleaning

i'm slowly going through my closet, looking for ways to streamline it (and justify new purchases). there are a few new things posted including three of my steven alan tops, a pair of radcliffe jeans, and an adorable marni bag.

laws of general economy update...

sorry i haven't been up-to-date with the clothing blog, all things leon have been keeping me occupied.

anyway, there are a lot of shoes and other accessories posted right now, including this cute pair of jcrew suede ballet flats ($35), which i'd love to have if only they were the right size.

in the next few weeks i'll post a few more things including a pair of vanessa bruno white jeans that were too small to begin with and will never fit, and my paige maternity denim that i never grew into.

spring is afoot, which means shopping and cleaning out the closet. even though my financial situation hasn't changed lately (i.e., i didn't lose my job since i was never employed to begin with), i must admit that reading the nytimes has made me very nervous about spending money on nonessentials. hopefully Laws of General Economy can continue to be a space for us to 'shop' without feeling too guilty. plus, i really need to get rid of more clothing...

laws of general economy update

alas for me, most of these items are too small.

they include:
lyell julie christie dress in white linen (size 6)
tashkent by cheyenne shearling flats (size 36)
two eskell blouses (size 0)
vintage plaid blouse (size x-small)
and many other lovely things.

as always, any feedback about the clothing blog is much appreciated. i will have a few more things to post once i'm better able to assess my spring wardrobe.

random draw

just a quick note to say that i will pick names for the pieces i listed on the clothing blog tomorrow morning. still scrambling to get this chapter in semi-decent shape, so i doubt i'll have the energy to play with random.org tonight. matthew picked up the dry-cleaning today, and everything looks lovely and ready to be shipped!

two new pieces on 'laws of general economy'

two new lovely pieces available on laws of general economy.

i am so happy that other people are participating. i have a few more things that i'm deciding whether or not it's time to relinquish before the baby arrives, but it's a hard process. i just wanted to stress to anyone considering offering clothing, accessories, design objects, etc., that the compensation you request is ultimately up to you. there are no hard rules about this. the important thing is: i don't think the site should be solely about money. it's a hard thing to give without expecting much, if anything, in return, especially to strangers. it's also hard to let go of things you bought and never used. i feel like i've become too attached to things, so this is a personally challenging exercise. sometimes we need a little incentive (nothing wrong with that), but i hope that the feeling of liberation is more appealing than balancing an imaginary checkbook. the more i dwell on numbers, the more depressed i become. i've made mistakes--i'm trying to do better. time to move on.

new items in laws of general economy blog

lots of lovely new things posted in the clothing blog. since most of them were quite expensive, i am asking for more than the shipping costs alone (but no more than 10-20% of what i originally paid). i am feeling super guilty about how much money i've spent over the years on clothing. the economy stinks and we're all feeling the bank account pinch. i'm sure we all have clothing in our closets that we don't wear but hate the idea of 'losing' money on in ebay. my solution is to meditate for a long time on why i bought the item, why it hasn't worked out for me, and then try to let go of the annoyance about how much money i spent on it. if someone else can love and wear it, then that makes me feel a little better. these new pieces of clothing are things that i could probably sell on ebay, but for insultingly low prices. therefore, i'm posting them on the blog first. if there are no takers, maybe i'll meditate a while longer before deciding whether or not ebay should take a cut of the 'profits.' if anyone else wants to join in on the fun (i.e. clearing out the closet), email me...

two blogs inspiring me to do better:
stephanie and her amazing imaginary outfits. why buy when you can make believe?
editor and her disciplined and thoughtful approach to structuring a wardrobe.
