mociun ikat dress...a sad ending

first lena and her virginia johnson camel scarf, now me...

you may remember, but the mociun ikat tie-front dress that beklina was graciously sending to me as an exchange for the small? well, it looks like it was stolen from my building because it's nowhere in sight. what is going on??? it makes me so sad to think that someone thought there was something worth stealing. i've no doubt the poor dress was trashed as soon as the package was opened.

this is the first time one of my packages has gone missing. i guess i was lucky, but it makes me reconsider my reliance on online shopping, especially since i spent $190 for nothing. from now on, i'm going to have to request insurance or a signature, even if i have to pay extra for shipping.

update: it arrived! (along with something else...)

oh no, erica! for lack of a better condolence, that totally sucks. maybe a nice neighbor picked it up for you?

i wonder if an increase in doorstep theft is linked to the plummeting economy -- i.e. fencing goods on ebay = extra cash.

ugh! that sucks! i had the same kind of thing happen to me in the summer (loeffler randall shoes!), and again right now. well, except that my parcel never made it to my door. i bought a mongolian vest off ebay from a seller in australia, and it never showed up! i waited so long in hope, that i can't get my money back from paypal/ebay! $200 flushed down the toilet! grrr... i second the insurance/signature (or just only use ups/fedex with signature so it won't be left on your doorstep)

I'm so sorry--this happened to me once with some Marc Jacobs sandals (as a big company, they sent me a second pair--somebody had even signed for the shoes).

If you paid for this on a credit card you might have some theft protection there. I'd call your CC company to find out. Sometimes debit cards have similar protection (I think mine does, but I use my CC for online purchases partly for this very reason). I hope your dress turns up in any event. I am so sorry.

I used paypal/checking account for the dress. It looks like I should try to come to some sort of resolution with Beklina first before I try to open a claim. I emailed them this morning, hopefully they can do something for me, even if it's store credit or the like.

I don't have a paypal account but I'd still ask them if they have any kind of theft prevention.

Were you able to track the package Beklina sent? I do hope it turns up or you get your money back.

according to usps's delivery confirmation, the dress was delivered yesterday morning. usually the mailman buzzes the apartment so i can pick it up immediately, but not this time.

as far as i know, paypal offers some sort of dispute mediation, but it sounds like i need to work with beklina first.

oh...that really sucks. sorry to hear that. hopefully something will be resolved (ie: beklina or paypal)
i hope you are feeling well otherwise!

That sucks! Have you tried checking your local post office? I'm never home when the mailman comes and I always have to go pick up my packages. Sometimes I just stop by with ID and ask if there's anything there for me. Two out of three times, there is something waiting. Maybe you already tried that... I just thought of it because before Christmas someone ordered a tie for me, and I sent it expedited so it would arrive in time (I paid nearly $20 of my own money to do this). After Christmas she wrote to me and asked when I sent it, and after checking at her post office, found that it had been sitting there for two weeks. Gaah.

I mean "ordered a tie FROM me." I am good at telling confusing stories.

I second Moya's thoughts. At LG we always send items with a direct signature requirement now (unless requested to do otherwise) because we have had so many cases of lost packages. Beklina may be able to work something out with you.

I'm so sorry. How completely annoying to have it disappear from the place which you call home.

Erica, I am so sorry to hear this! I sometimes get frustrated that I have schedule my FedEx deliveries from totakaelo when I am home from school ('cause they require a signature). Your sad tale reminds me why we have to sign. The owner of Beklina is a nice girl -- hopefully she can blame this one on the Post Office, you can get store credit, and all will be well. Sounds like it's USPS's fault. Good luck with this.

no!!!
oh geez, i'm so sorry to hear that. such a bummer! hopefully beklina will have a different policy on stolen goods than bebe babble does...

fingers crossed for you... (and me too-- i'm still waiting for paypal to review our claim.)

i would be so miserable if this happened to me. i am so so sorry. incredible. such a disappointment.

i'm sorry to hear this happened to you; i have a beef with the usps/ups/fedex...it never ends.

i constantly have things stolen, and our mail delivery person doesn't help- our mail is either in the trash (i kid you not), in the back of the building, or on the floor. when i call to complain, they laugh at me. thanks, chicago post. grr.

good luck getting this resolved; beklina is so cool, and i'm guessing something will come of it via paypal. :)

you know, it's been a few years since I ran a stockroom, but back then, my company worked with UPS and every package (even just standard ground shipping) was automatically insured for up to $200, and they made good on that when I shipped a woman a suit and it was stolen off her porch before she got home.

So you might want to check up on that, as my information is not current, but it might be a safer route to go if this is the road we're all heading down now.

(and let me join everyone else in saying how sincerely sorry I am!)

How awful!! I hope you find your dress. I second moya's and anabela's comments. USPS sometimes forgets to leave notices for delivery attempts, so you should drop by your local post office.

oh i am so sorry!!! this is horrific as that dress is so lovely and the trouble you have gone through to get it has continued to be trouble... hopefully this story will have a happy ending!

Oh, that sucks but I hope you get a great resolution! I agree that maybe USPS will wind up hopefully saving the day. I am in the middle of an ordered online dress issue myself (I bought a dress on Ebay; love it BUT it has a sensor attached to it and the whacked-out seller has told me to just take it to Saks where she claims she bought it for detagging; she has *also* tried to demand that I return it to her for daring to question why it came with the tag, *without* a mention of a refund). Fingers crossed Erica!

totally sucks. but, it seems there must be some resolution besides you being out $190 w/o dress?! or am i super naiiiive?

Today I left a (n empty) suitcase outside my flat for about five seconds while I went to get something to clean it with and when I came back it was gone! Hope you can sort it out with Beklina or Paypal - so upsetting. Oh, also my friend in Dubai had her laundry stolen/lost and they went through CCTV and blamed it on some poor maintenance man who got immediately deported. Not sure which system is worse/better! I'm feeling twitchy that you have another little thing to focus on now though...
