wishlist no. 1: cable knit sweater in winter white

a.p.c. wool irish pullover, $415

l.l. bean cotton fisherman sweater, $99

vanessa bruno athe alpaca folk sweater at anaise, $271

i've been looking for a white cable-knit sweater for a long while now. i go back and forth on whether it needs to be wool, cotton, or a wool blend. choosing the right fit is the most challenging part, though. do i want something that is more traditional, short and bulky, or something that is more figure-skimming but still connotes warmth and coziness? j.crew is an option, but i tend to stay away from their knits.

any other thoughts or leads on the perfect white cable knit sweater? should i look in vintage shops?

in other news, i'm thrilled that uniqlo finally opened a webshop.

i'm glad to hear you like your ll bean cable knit sweater, emily! i think short and bulky is probably the way to go. it will look better with skirts and trousers, i think.

i feel like you can etsy something like this fairly easily, but the vanessa bruno one is very lovely.

etsy is definitely a good option (especially for those of us with little patience for thrifting). i love the vanessa bruno one, but i'm iffy about the fiber content.

Have you seen the LL Bean mens/boys version of that sweater? It looks similar, but is 100% wool. http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/51737?feat=594-GN1&page=heritage-sweater-irish-fisherman-s-crewneck

I have a similar sweater that's a cardigan from j crew circa 2003, and it has really lasted well, then again, that was back when their stuff was a lot better!! I've seen a few on etsy lately that are under $50 so I bet it's a good place to start.

I was just eying that llbean sig sweater, too. Love the idea of cotton -- I find wool way too hot for my office.

I hope you and the boys are doing well, Erica!

the LLBean kids version is also wonderful - it's a cotton acrylic blend which i usually avoid but it works well for this sweater - cozy without being too too hot. http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/74863?feat=503370-CL2&page=kids-fisherman-s-sweater

I like this vanessa bruno one on yoox: http://www.yoox.com/us/39315651VS/item?dept=#sts=dreambox80&cod10=39315651VS&sizeId=

All wool but mid-weight. Also, I like yoox, so that's a plus.

I've been having the same kind of envy. I'm on the hunt for the one Isabel Marant produced last season (I think?)and of course it's almost impossible to find.

I prefer the LL Bean. At first the APC was meant to be "my" choice but maybe it's the styling or the size but something feels awkward about the sleeves.

as a side note, I just got my 39.90 cashmere on uniqlo and it is not bad at all

I tried the LL Bean sweater and it is really cute in Navy as well. I did not get it because Santa went to Uniglo and stocked up on 39 dollar cashmere sweater. Merry Christmas, Erica to you and your beautiful family
